The Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) is organising an event on Monday, 23 March, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at its premises, entitled: “Always Strive for Excellence – Theodore Papazoglou: Supporting Research, Making an Impact”.
The purpose of the event is to highlight the impact of the Action “Science and Society” – “Always Strive for Excellence – Theodore Papazoglou” that was co-funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and H.F.R.I. The aim of the Action was to support research excellence by rewarding remarkable proposals submitted under a highly competitive funding mechanism, such as the ERC. It also aimed to create the right conditions for harnessing country’s scientific potential and attracting young scientists working abroad.
The event will be held in memory of Theodore Papazoglou, one of the cornerstones of the ERC. Dr. Laura Pontiggia, Senior Policy Analyst at the ERC Executive Agency, will deliver the tribute, referring to his particularly important contribution to the international scientific community and his unparalleled dedication to the work of the ERC. Following the keynote speech, data on the participation of Greek researchers in ERC Grants will be presented.
The event will provide an opportunity for a meaningful dialogue on the broader role of research funding in advancing scientific excellence in Greece. The discussions, in which the Scientific Coordinators of the research projects supported under this Action will participate, will be coordinated by members of the H.F.R.I. Scientific Council.
The event will be held in English and will be broadcast live on H.F.R.I. YouTube channel.: https://www.youtube.com/@elidek-hfri
