The SEE-ERA project aims to promote structural change in support of gender equality in Research and Innovation. Specifically, it seeks to transform Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) in five Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) and two Research Funding Organisations (RFOs) operating in four countries of South East Europe (Greece, Albania, Croatia, and Romania).

The project’s goal is to strengthen gender capacities to design and implement sustainable GEPs through tailored mentoring and training activities. By broadening the gender equality agenda, SEE-ERA contributes to an inclusive approach for shaping new research careers, integrating the gender dimension more effectively into research and innovation (R&I), enhancing knowledge valorisation, and building stronger R&I communities and ecosystems in countries that often lag in knowledge creation and innovation.

While SEE-ERA focuses on the South East European region, it also adopts a wider geographical perspective, involving partners from Northern Europe to foster mutual learning, exchange of best practices, and cross-country collaboration. The project consortium consists of ten partners from six European countries: Greece, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Croatia, Albania, and Romania. The project has a three-year duration (February 2025 – January 2028).

Since its launch, SEE-ERA has progressed through regular online and in-person meetings, collaborative workshops, and ongoing exchange of experience and expertise among partners. A recent milestone was the two-day meeting held in Athens, hosted at the premises of H.F.R.I. During this meeting, partners reviewed progress, shared good practices, and discussed common challenges, reinforcing their collaboration towards more inclusive and sustainable R&I ecosystems.
