Event: “Female Civic Presence in Roman Greece”

Date: June 12, 2024

On Friday, June 14, at 10:00 a.m., a workshop entitled “Female Civic Presence in Roman Greece” will be held in the NDC hall of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (ground floor). The workshop is organised within the framework of the research Project “Greek Matronae: Female Civic Presence and Self-Representation in Imperial Greece (1st – 3rd c. CE)” funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) under the Action “3rd Call for H.F.R.I. Research Projects to support Postdoctoral Researchers”, under the auspices of the Institute of Historical Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (IHR/NHRF).

Greek and foreign scholars, experts in the fields of History and Archaeology, will deliver speeches. The speakers of the workshop will share their most recent research in their field of expertise, with the aim of promoting the understanding of women’s activity and representation in the public sphere of Roman Greek cities, as documented by the ancient literary, epigraphic and archaeological evidence. The event offers a unique opportunity for researchers and students to learn about the latest research developments and to exchange constructive ideas on women’s public activity and self-presentation in Roman imperial Greece.
